While the world can still be seen as a roiling hell pit, a significant historic shift in values is also evident and many of us are experimenting with models of a freer, fairer, more eco-conscious lifestyle. The darkness is always there and so is the light. Yin has a small eye of yang and the yang a small eye of yin, portals to which we can go if we choose. Humanity is moving toward a planetary civilization with growth pangs conspicuous in the financial, social and ecological breakdowns throughout the world. Will we mature as a species beyond our self-indulgent greed and ignorance and take responsibility for healing the web of life? There are many intriguing signs of hope. Progressive spiritual leaders see the 21st century as a time of dialogue between clashing worldviews. It is possible for religious faiths to show the way toward unity and re-sacralizing nature, and entheogens, are already playing a role in this shift. Creative arts can provide the rhythms and iconography of global harmony. A worldview that holds the life-web as sacred presents the evolutionary process as an expression of Divine Source. God is the supreme artist and cosmos the evolving masterpiece of creation.
People value, protect and preserve masterpieces and what is sacred. Venerating holy sites and contemplating spiritual objects brings awareness of our own divinity, a remembrance of utmost importance in these beleaguered times. Consider the miracle that 3.6 billion years ago there was only blue-green algae on earth. The evolution to present day complex biological bodies and minds is a demonstration of cosmic love and intelligence becoming self aware. God manifests unlimited beauty and invites us to witness and take a role in the grandest aesthetic adventure imaginable, becoming a conscious co-creator of our life. Even in our brief existence, how could we despair?
