Paul Lowe has spent his life investigating the maximum potential for human beings and has found it to be vast, limitless and available to everybody. For forty years he travelled around the world, encouraging people to move beyond what is normally thought of as possible or impossible. He has a remarkable facilty to show people what they are not seeing about themselves, and shares his insights with caring, and perhaps most importantly, humour.
Since retiring from public life in 2007, Paul has continued to send regular emails to a group of of people that were involved in his work and a few others, responding to our state of consciousness, situations in the world and the evolution of our human destiny.
This blog is NewRealities attempt to bring Paul's observations to a greater audience. Feel free to post any comments about what you read here. While Paul may not respond directly, we want to make this an open dialogue among our readers. An often asked question is: what is it like to be Paul Lowe.
First thing: Paul Lowe does not find it easy to address himself as *I* or
The terms seem awkward - not fitting.
Not so easy though in a conversation to speak in terms of the third person.
Let's see how it goes.
In fact, I am not too sure what it is like to be Paul Lowe.
I do enjoy the question when there is a person present asking
as it seems that Paul gets to look at Paul more from the outside.
I do often ask people people how they see him.
Don't get many substantial answers.
Seem they have as much difficulty defining him as Paul does.
(Nice one though from Kira recently eh.)
In life I seem to be living with Paul.
It is as though he has a separate reality - that is clearly seen
from some other perspective. And that is where it gets a bit muddled.
Who is it that has the outside/inside perspective, and from where.
Not that it matters - whatever is, is.
And it is interesting - especially when somebody asks the question.
To him, although in one way, everything on what we call the outside is
at the same time, not real. Not at all real.
Most people's behaviour, most of the time, does not seem at all real.
Yet, of course it is - on one level anyway.
And what about these levels.
On one level there are no levels,
and on other levels there definitely are levels.
There is always a sensation that there is Something Else -
and if there is no idea if that is true, or what it could be if it was
Could be though.
"The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences."
Which indicates to me - Paul is not in/on The Great Way - for,
although not serious, preferences he has for sure.
Thing is though, he does not have a preference for not having preferences.
Or anything really.
So maybe that is not having preferences? Everything is, just as it is.
Like everything else, preferences are just observed. They just are.
In one way it is fun living with Paul - for me anyway.
I think he may be a bit boring to be with for any length of time though.
Hardly every wants to go anywhere, or meet anyone, or do much,
and seems happy just to potter along doing very simple things.
And not much entertainment as he does not argue.
There is something he cannot explain - even to himself.
Everything seems more like a vibration than solid. Even himself.
Actually, especially himself. Inside is tingling so strongly it is as if
every single part of every single cell is dancing its own dance -
in harmony with all the other parts of the cells.
In one way, moving is like floating.
And seems as though in a blink, everything will reveal itself as -
The Something/Nothing Else.
And as he keeps saying (over and over) nothing seems any more,
or any less, than anything else. Tiddly Pom.
The writing and the recording is fading.
At one time, if something came to express it would not go away
until it had been delivered. Not so now - it fades quite quickly.
And the actual writing seems different - not so accurately precise.
And no idea what is next - or even if there is one.
Just here, now - and sending love
I don't think I have sent it out - in this form anyway.
And even if I have sent it already - it is a good reminder.
I know I keep on about this, and the subject keeps coming up
to share, over and over.
This time it has woken me up at 1am, so here we go again.
If you, and your life, isn't absolutely wonderful, and you find yourself
complaining, one of the main reasons maybe that you are grossly
taking more than you are giving.
We all are taking more than we are giving, it is not possible to give
more than taking, but if the imbalance is big, and there is complaint,
suffering is the result.
(If you can find someone who is giving more than they are taking,
or just giving a lot, you will find they have a fascinating life.)
As I say, it is not possible to give more than taking.
You could check it out. Get a large piece of paper and divide it
vertically. (If you are really unhappy in your life you may need a long
piece - like a toilet roll!)
On one side put all you are getting from life.
Include all the basics - water, electricity, roads, transport,
manufactured goods, health facilities, all general amenities,
work, friends, family - life.
Then to the more subtle - the air you breath, the natural beauty around,
the birds, the baby that smiles at you, the unexpected help from
strangers. Then the very life you have been given from your parents.
And so on.
Now the other side of the paper - what are you giving back.
The bigger the imbalance, the more unhappy you are likely to be.
As I keep saying - whatever the imbalance, it is not wrong,
just has consequences.
Once again, check out your life. If you are not delightfully fulfilled it
is pretty sure you are not being what is called generous. As I keep saying,
it is not possible to be generous - just by being alive, we are getting so
much from life it is not possible to balance the taking and giving,
(So when in doubt - give more.)
In case I have not made it clear, I am very, very grateful to those of you
who do contribute to our lives - in every way. And that includes just
reading this, and other things we send out. Every time you feel something -
especially if it is uplifting, it is a contribution to all of us in the
I am often, often asked what to do about some sort of personal misery
and/or depression some person is having.
Someone just wrote to me about their anger and depression,
and although in one way I would like to answer them on the level
from which they are communicating, I know it would not have the effect
they desire. Nothing will.
At one time I used to *go into* the person and attempt to connect
at their level, then offer them a thread of ideas onto which they could
free themselves. That stage was not very efficient, and seems over.
Now, it all seems amazingly clear to me, and in its own way,
it is very similar to what has been proffered by many others -
Be Here Now.
Unfortunately, the message does not seem to connect for most people.
As we keep saying, the misery is activated in the mind.
If you are just here now, the past does not have the mental effect.
Things still go on - emotional and physical, but as the Sufi saying goes:
"This too will pass."
I know - I keep saying the same thing don't I. And here it is again:
Be where you are. Do what you are doing. Say what you are saying.
Be aware of your thoughts - And Don't Go There!
wanting things to be different from the way they are -
in each moment.
Suggestion - don't rush past this - stop and let it in.
Just be aware, and be with what is - in this, this very moment.
So I understand, when the sperm meets the egg
a process commences that replicates the whole evolution of beings.
Just roughly - the embryo/foetus starts as an Ameba, and evolves
through the whole process of developing into human form.
We go through stages of being a fish in water, reptile, insect, animal -
with a tail, and fur - and so on.
Eventually we emerge in a helpless human form,
and continue to mature into a grown human being.
The thing that does not seem to be fully realised is - if we will let it -
the growth never stops. It is like a tree - once planted, it keeps growing
until the process is finished, it dies, and the seeds carry on the process.
But with humans, at varying ages with each person,
most people don't realise this, and stop being open to growing.
As if: this is it now.
It never is - and if we do not cooperate with the growing energy,
it turns in - and makes trouble - serious trouble - mental, emotional,
As we keep saying, everything is moving and changing -
everything on every level, and if we attempt to opt out of the process
there are serious consequences.
Not punishment - because nothing is wrong, just that if we are not aware
of the process, and are not available to it, we become out of harmonic
And this is what could be happening with the whole of humanity
on this planet - we are not evolving at a healthy rate - individually
It seems it is crucial now that a collective change of consciousness
takes place on this planet (and if not - no worries) and, so we are told
by imaginative scientist, all it takes is ten percent of us to be open
for the change.
You reading this, could be part of the the percent.
Kira has been staying with us for a month.
Here is one of her homes.
Over the time we have known her she has transformed -
more than anyone else we have known.
Her behavioural patterns have almost disappeared.
They do still happen, and when they do she catches them.
I found that very touching.
(While she was here she organised all our practical
and financial issues, and cooked some great curries.)
We can hardly believe how much she does in her life -
and most of it for other people.
When she arrived she had 500 emails in her inbox!
Plus her visiting, and taking care of her several projects in Nepal -
and her psychic sessions (which are very, very good.)
She is exceptional, and a lot of it is to do with how her life is oriented
-awareness first, and how she takes care of people.
No longer having much sense of myself I asked her how she sees me.
She sent me the following - from her website (http://www.kirakay.com)
>What do you say to people when they ask you
>who/what is Paul Lowe like.
hi love, here is what I wrote on my website blog about you ….
Continuing My Inspiring People Dialogue:
Paul Lowe Written by Kira Kay
I recently had an important 20th anniversary:
the anniversary of when I consciously decided I needed to find out ‘who
am I?’ … What an amazing journey this question has taken - and is still
taking - me upon!
I feel so grateful for the younger ‘me’ who had the courage to say yes to
this deeper inquiry, even though at the time I was really scared, lost and
unsure even of where to start. Thankfully, life helped me along... a lot!
After sitting on a rock in the Snowy Mountains, Australia, I came to one
of the most significant decisions in my life: not to continue with
corporate law, and instead to embark on a discovery of who I am and what life is really
about, and therefore what is really my purpose.
Two weeks after this epiphany, I met Paul Lowe, a significant and
inspiring teacher on my path who remains a mentor, and also my dear
friend, to this day.
Up until meeting Paul I had never really heard of ‘spirituality,’ nor even
of meditation. So when a friend said ‘come along and meet this crazy guy
who is teaching meditation this weekend,’ I surprised even myself
and responded ‘yes, why not?!’
Meeting Paul was a powerful confirmation of my recent decision.
He spoke to what I felt deep inside me, and it was as if I had met someone
to whom I could say everything I felt inside.
Over these past 20 years I have lived close enough to Paul’s life to know
that he really 'walks his talk.’ I have experienced him going totally
into whatever is arising, until it is no longer relevant or appropriate.
This has had a deep impact for me personally as it has given me a living
example of someone who simply 'goes for life,’ who says everything he
needs or wants to say, who goes wherever he wishes to go (I recall being a
part of a few of those experiences!), who shares his attractions and
sexuality fully, who says his truth in the simplest and most honest of
moments – way too many to write about.
They all flash before my eyes as examples over and over - especially
if I try to get around my own truth!
And then one of these moments comes as a reminder and encouragement
to open another level within my own life.
I find that Paul’s own quality of being total leaves him in a truly
remarkable place of being able to connect, relate, and tune in with people -
not their behavioral patterns, not their dramas or themes – but who they
really are. He is able to connect with simple clarity to where the person
really is, so that they can relate, soften, and hear him.
I cannot begin to count the number of times I have been a witness
to Paul in the depths of compassion through this meeting of another.
Be it in a group dedicated to communication or on the street with
strangers, or in a practical encounter like at the bank – without exception,
he meets the person.
Over the years I have known Paul, I have seen this refine and soften in
him, and then refine more … in ways I truly don’t have words for. Maybe the
nearest analogy would be a musician being in tune with his/her instrument
in a way that it comes to the point that it is simply always sweetly
When I consider an example of an ‘awake’ person, this is my reference
point, this level of ‘being with,’ which is deeply, intensely personal and
yet at the same time not personal at all … compassionate to a level that
includes practically taking care of a person physically or financially,
and at the same time being willing to share such an uncompromising level
of truth that it may make a close relative or friend disown him.
Without compromise or exception – he will 'be with what is'.
I have in the past twenty years met many, many different people, teachers,
individuals – and Paul stands out as a light.
Even when I have felt very confronted by what Paul has said to me
personally about my own behavior, something else within me has realised
and recognised that what he has said has a ‘ring of truth.’
This has allowed me, in turn, to ‘be with’ what he has shared, to let it
in and thereby help my own evolution.
For this I am deeply appreciative and grateful.
